Eileen T. Conner
In Remembrance
1943 – 2020

It is with great sadness that we pay tribute to Eileen T. Conner, a valued colleague, true friend, and community force. Eileen joined Belfint, Lyons & Shuman, P.A. (BLS) in 1974 where she worked her way up to becoming the first female shareholder of the firm in 1982. While with BLS, Eileen contributed greatly to the success of our firm, our staff, and the many clients she worked closely with during her career. She was a pioneer in our profession, helping pave the way for women through her mentorships and promoting flexible schedules for work-life balance that were ahead of their time. She cared deeply about her clients, always listened to their concerns, helped solve their tax problems, and wanted to make sure they were taken care of well after her retirement in 2008. The close relationships she formed with clients and BLS team members were those of love, sincerity, and genuine interest, with many of whom remaining friends through the last days of her life.

Eileen was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Delaware Society of Certified Public Accountants, American Society of Women Accountants, American Woman’s Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the Wilmington Tax Group. She was a strong advocate for the accounting profession, where she sat on both the Delaware State Board of Accountancy and the Delaware Society of CPAs board as well as many other officer and committee positions for several professional organizations.

A native of Brooklyn, New York, Eileen earned her Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the Brooklyn College of the City University of New York and became a Delaware resident after marrying her love, Michael, in 1971. Eileen was very active in her adopted community’s organizations throughout her life, including her appointment to commissioner of the Delaware Commission for Women, treasurer of multiple campaigns for Tom Carper, board member of the Jewish Federation of Delaware, and President of the Board at The Kutz Home among many others. She was a world traveler, active theatergoer, jewelry maker, and dear friend to many who knew her well.

Eileen left an impression on everyone she met through her friendly, professional manner and her ability to cut to the chase and just get things done. She will be dearly missed, and we will always remember the impact she had on many of us individually, the community she loved, and the firm with whom she spent many great years.
